Hey
everyone! My name is Amanda Thompson.
I am
from West Palm Beach, Florida but I lived in Georgia before I left for the
World Race. I graduated college in 2003 with a double major in Social
Sciences and Secondary Education. In my life BWR (Before World Race), I
taught middle school for 6 years. My most recent job was teaching
Geography to 7th graders in Walton County, Georgia. I really enjoy
teaching and thought I wanted to do it forever. When God called me to the
World Race, I thought it was the craziest thing in the world. I quit my
job, sold or gave away most of my stuff, and left my life. Best decision
I ever made.
I just
can't stay in the United States. God has called me to the nations, and
all I want to do is be out on the field. I just came back from
India. I led a RL team during the summer. It was one of the most
incredible experiences of my life, and I am just itching to get back out.
I have
an incredible passion for Thailand. I spent my last month on the WR in
Phuket, Thailand. It was my favorite month on the Race. This
country is 95% Buddhist. Billions of dollars are made every year in
Thailand in the sex industry. My heart breaks for the women caught in
prostitution, for the men who are seeking love in all the wrong places, for the
Buddhists who seek truth but don't find it, for the children affected by
trafficking, for those who feel they have no choices and no hope….I could go on
and on. Needless to say, I'm REAL excited about having this opportunity
to serve again in Thailand AND to serve next to all of the amazing students
that are coming!!!
Oh yes,
and I LOVE to worship!!!
